Paul Collier: The aid evasion: raising the “bottom billion”

June 12, 2007

“Aid made the G8 headlines, but it is a sideshow alongside the real-world anti-poverty measures of people in Africa”

Paul Collier has given his verdict on the G8 summit. Aid is but a drop in the ocean in terms of what Africa really needs. He is arguing (once again) for less aid and more serious attention on trade. See the Open Democracy link. Trade, not aid is the way to improve the world’s future.

Collier is the director of the Centre for the Study of African Economies there. His latest book is The Bottom Billion: Why the Poorest Countries are Failing and What Can Be Done About It (Oxford University Press, 2007).

Wolfowitz: should he stay or should he go?

May 17th, 2007 by Pink Cloud of Death

The speculation continues. The problem might be deeper than just being Paul Wolfowitz’s girlfriend at the World Bank.

The Guardian suggests the Europeans (and Canada) are getting incredibly frustrated. Is Mr Wolfowitz’s political past finally catching up with him?
